All vet students need externships in a clinic setting to build their medical skills or meet veterinary school graduation requirements. But why limit your experience to shadowing veterinarians when you can work with them to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to the exam room?
At Hawthorne Animal Hospital, we value the knowledge and perspectives you bring to your externship and do everything we can to ensure you get the most out of your time with us. Our veterinarians don’t just bark orders at you—instead, you’ll be fully immersed in patient care, including actively participating in hospital rounds, sharing your insights on cases and diagnoses, and for fourth-year students, scrubbing in on procedures and surgeries.
Because Hawthorne is a full-service, AAHA-accredited hospital, you can tailor your externship to an area that most interests you or work one-on-one with veterinarians in all areas of care for a comprehensive learning experience, both of which help open doors to an incredible career. Our lineup of specialties include:
The veterinarians of Hawthorne consider your choice to intern with us an honor. In return for you putting your trust in us during this important milestone in your education, we go above and beyond to make your experience the best it can be by offering a variety of benefits:
